Is there value in an HRIS?

According to Career Cast, the 3rd best job of 2012 is a human resources manager.  Based off of work environment, stress levels, physical demands, income levels, and hiring outlook, HR managers outranked all other jobs except for actuaries and software engineers.  How can HR managers raise their rank and become the best job of 2013? An HRIS system.

An HRIS, or Human Resource Information System, is a software solution that facilitates the work carried out by the HR manager.  An HRIS allows employee tracking to be automated so that less manual recording is necessary, ultimately allowing HR to run smoother and with greater efficiency.  In other words, HR managers who employ an HRIS software can streamline their work; HRIS software is advantageous due to the ease of access to and quantity of information which can be stored.  An employee can be tracked through the HRIS from the applicant stage through retirement so that requests for promotions, raises, or transfers can be easily evaluated holistically. Furthermore, HRIS software is highly flexible.  Different modules can be added to the software in order to customize the HRIS to the specific company at hand.  For example, Company A may prefer to manage HR payroll and recruiting through an HRIS whereas Company B may additionally want a training module.  Different software providers or vendors will offer different features so completing an HRIS Selector Tool can be beneficial to determine which HRIS best matches the needs of the company’s HR department.

The future for human resources managers looks bright, especially with the implementation of HRIS software.  Perhaps HR managers will rank first for the best job in 2013.
