A driver employed by an armored car service is at different risk than a driver for a retail store.<\/p>\n<p>Getting these classifications right and keeping them current is vital to managing your business workers\u2019 compensation insurance premium rate.<\/p>\n<p><b>HRIS\u00a0<\/b><b>R<\/b><b>eliability<\/b><\/p>\n<p>An HRIS program brings credibility and accuracy to your payroll audits.\u00a0But, it is only as infallible as your input and updates.\u00a0Make sure to\u00a0accurately update the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete a correct and current list of employees on staff.<\/li>\n<li>Identify employees as regular, probationary, temporary, full-time, part-time, and exempt or non-exempt.<\/li>\n<li>Locate or prepare job analyses and descriptions for all work positions.<\/li>\n<li>Identify the minimum number of hours required of workers to be considered\u00a0<i>full-time<\/i>.<\/li>\n<li>Determine how accurately your business has classified\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flsa.com\/coverage.html\">employees as exempt<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm that\u00a0independent\u00a0contractors are clearly assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your HRIS software\u00a0will be\u00a0an enormous help in sorting, storing, and reporting the data auditors want to see.<\/p>\n<p><b>Schedule HRIS\u00a0<\/b><b>A<\/b><b>udits<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Still, HRIS can only process that data provided. It is not enough to have confidence in your installation data because there will\u00a0always\u00a0be changes: turnover, transfers, reassignments, and promotions. Your HRIS program\u2019s value is a function of the regular reviews you schedule and maintain.\u00a0It is prudent to review the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enter employee changes accurately and consistently with HRIS implementation directions.<\/li>\n<li>Train employees involved with HRIS interface in\u00a0the\u00a0need for accuracy and audits.<\/li>\n<li>Plan a quarterly\u00a0<i>desk audit<\/i>\u00a0of HRIS performance. (A\u00a0<i>desk audit<\/i>\u00a0can be a simple review\u00a0of paperwork and a comparison to the software reports.)<\/li>\n<li>Review your HRIS job classification reports together with your workers\u2019 compensation insurance broker well before soliciting your insurance premium rate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A good HRIS program can give you a false confidence in its outputs. There is a risk that you will think the quality is self-perpetuating.
